Vulcanised Tyre Repairs

Brookside Tyres & Co. are tyre vulcanising specialists and frequently uses this method to repair various tyres, including standard car tyres to lorry and agricultural vehicle tyres.

There are various stages to the repair process, starting with a thorough inspection of the tyre, and then preparing the area such as grinding and vulcanising. Vulcanising is a chemical process for curing the rubber and link the polymer molecules to repair the damages. This also makes the rubber stronger in the area for re-use.

Our repairs meet the British Standards BSAU159F legislation and come with a guarantee for the life of the tyre. This legislation splits minor and major repair types, and defines safe procedures for the repairs. Limits are enforced on the location, size and amount of repairs allowed in a tyre, along with recommended materials and techniques.

If tyres are deemed unrepairable, they are scrapped and disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, which comes at a continually increasing cost, therefore we make a small charge for each scrap tyre which enables collection and recycling.

Tyre Repair ProcessThere are many conditions that make a tyre un-repairable, which is why we thoroughly inspect them before progressing.

For instance:
 ~ Previous bad repairs
 ~ Deteriorated rubber
 ~ Heavily worn tread
~ Run flat / bead damage
 ~ Exposed cords
 ~ Secondary damage (Cuts etc)

Our specialist fitters also take care not to scratch alloy wheels when fitting tyres, we also have equipment which enables us to remove wheels with lost locking nuts. Once we have completed our fitting of the tyre, we ensure all wheels are balanced correctly.

Wheel balancing ensures the tyre and wheel spin without causing vibrations. This is accomplished by checking the wheel and tyre combination for any heavy spots, these are then compensated by placing precise lead weights on the opposite side to neutralise the problem.

Un-balanced wheel symptoms:
~ Vibrations through the steering wheel at high speeds
~ Vibrations in the seat or floor during high speeds
~ Scalloped or cupped wear patterns on the tyres
~ Uneven and premature wear on tyre
